‘Oysters’ was a one act play written by Eugene Byrne and Brian Smedley. It was performed at the Bridgwater Art Centre in January 1983.
Originally ‘Oysters’ was going to be a play about ‘The Dangerous Brothers’ which Smedley had planned to write with Rod Jones. However, when it didn’t work out, Smedley drafted in Byrne to write a new script based on a similar theme; ‘Getting the old band back together’.
The cast included Smedley, Ed Grey, Tim Mander, Rob Hackwill and Sally Grieve. It also included walk on parts by Kim Newman, Kate Berthiaume and Peter Grieve.
The Art Centre stage was decked out with sawdust to resemble a bar room.
Rob Hackwill wore his famous ‘electric blue’ jump suit and beret.
